Voiix – Redefining Indian Couture

Voiix by Saiba and Maneet

Voiix, a woman’s clothing label by Saiba and Maneet is bending genres and redefining the stereotypes of Indian dressing sensibilities. Their brand aesthetics lies in the fact that traditional Indian clothing has countless facets to it; the designer duo are thriving to create awareness in the society through their beautiful outfits that speak volumes about being bold and expressive through casting remarkable fashion statements. We speak to Saiba about her beloved label:

What does Voiix mean?

Voiix means voice in French. We have been in the fashion industry for seven years now; earlier we were retailing under a different brand name. However, we have re-launched our label, wherein themed collection will be showcased on a regular basis interpreting the core mantra of Indian couture. Our clothes reflect tastes of contemporary, independent Indian women; be it the colour palette or the luxurious fabrics, cuts and silhouettes, or perhaps the almost delicious embroidery work and flowy drapes, our collection talks about feminism in the most au courant ways. Nonetheless, even feminism has a slight touches of masculinity to it; women today are no more delicate damsels, and neither do they like to dress up in such manner—panel dressing, sharp cuts and structured silhouettes are today’s go-to options.

Tell us about one fashion trend that you absolutely love…

Monochrome is huge this season; it works with two extreme colours- black and white. However, we have tried being a little experimental here and worked on a collection that has reds and whites, instead of the regular colour shade. Monochrome trend depicts illuminati; it casts a very powerful fashion statement; we have just tried to give this trend a refreshing makeover.

What colour will be ruling the fashion dais this summer?

It has to be white. White capes and summer jackets will be the ruling fashion element this summer. Also, white saris with subtle pops of colour, and white crop tops paired with high-waisted palazzos will be the trending look for the coming months. In short, white will be beautifully blended in Indo-fusion ensembles with touch of western influences. As far as fabrics are concerned, jersey, khadi, raw silk and other Indian handlooms will do the rounds.

What are you working on next?

We are focusing on our winter collection wherein Indian weaves will be the pivotal factor. We have tied up with local weavers of Banaras for developing our very own weaves, brocades and more… The collection will flaunt gorgeous paisleys with baroque touch, lots of gold and red interplay on bridal canvasses and of course oxblood red and jade will be surfacing on many outfits.

The dresses are longer, the skirts are A-lined and the trousers are cropped. Materials are a mixture of textures with knits and crochet, leather and suede – the chocolate brown suede shorts and jacket are key drifts. These rich textures are combined with denim – one of the star fabrics for spring summer.

Colours are a combination of muted pastel shades with pops of coral and indigo. Soft ruffle detailing and feminine prints, which take inspiration from the orient, create a seventies romantic bohemian look. Oversized peasant blouses are teamed with button front denim skirts and bell bottom jeans, matched with high platforms and felt hats creating a classic seventies silhouette.

For SS15 culottes are in pink leather and trousers are loose and wide – creating a new elegant shape. A fresh and modern feel updates this season’s Sports Luxe trend. Clean, simple lines create the look for the utility nineties inspired collection. Minimal boxy, cropped jackets in a variety of fabrics and textures – from neoprene to sheer and mesh – mixed with the cigarette trouser creates a sleek look.

Asymmetric tops and tunics add to the new season silhouette. Colour for this collection is exciting with poster paint shades of blue and green. Colour blocking leads the way – whilst the all-over whites we’ve seen in past seasons have returned. Florals are big and bold and are on full looks – on dresses and across short suits.

Customers seek instant gratification for their need for convenience and customisation. Serene believes every woman is entitled to own footwear that is sculpted and created solely for her. Serene says, “Cara Pyramids’ Bespoke service helps women wear what they want, rather than having to choose from pre-made options. This gives them the freedom to choose the material, style, cut, size and shape. It is also a life-saver for women with slightly unconventional foot size. To ensure it’s the right fit, we make and remake it, till it’s tailored to perfection.”

A bespoke shoe service with unmatched sophistication and style is a rarity and hence it isn’t surprising that the Indian fashion industry has been all praises for the brand. Fashion-forward designer, Nachiket Barwe connected with Serene to design the footwear for his Wills India Fashion Week show. After receiving an awe-inspiring response, her shoes for Lords were used on the runaway for the fashion shows of Surily Goel and other designers in Blenders Pride Fashion Tour. She designed for Nachiket Barwe once again––leading to a few enthralled students of London School of Fashion requesting for her inimitable shoe designs.

A luxury house with a heart, Serene doesn’t believe in using real leather for her designs, “I am very sensitive towards the use of leather. I believe in today’s day and age, technology has given synthetic materials the same kind of durability as seen in leather.”

The bespoke luxury shoe service comes with the responsibility of creating perfectly sculpted footwear for women who desire both style and comfort and in an eco-friendly environment. The show was a grand amalgamation of fashion and art when Himalayan presented the ‘Himalayan Couture Collection’ by Shantanu and Nikhil and artwork by artist Brinda Miller at the fashion week. Super model and dancer, Jesse Randhawa floated in a white will-power textured gown with tantalizing 3D embellishments to end the superb show.

Four giant columns on the stage set the mood of the show and 39 beautiful creations enthralled the audience. The collection inspired by the colours and charm of the Himalayan waters, known for its rare beauty. Visualised by the majesty and serenity of the Himalayas, the free-spirited couture line had timeless beauty and elegance.

Layering was contemporary with head gears making a striking addition. Offering couture wear, the silhouettes incorporated creative construction and intriguing fabric cutouts on a colour story that had dramatic grey, white, deep red, blue and black for luxurious fabrics like chiffon, georgette, tulle and organza.

Shantanu and Nikhil

Shantanu and Nikhil

Moulded silhouettes were seen in New Age lehengas and Anarkalis, while tone-on-tone draped sari-gowns were regal in form and structure, but cocktail gowns were voluminous as they sailed down the ramp. Opening the show with a tiered tulle will-power gown with antique gold work, the display moved to dramatic creations that were just ideal for cocktail bridal wear.

Shantanu and Nikhil

Bronze beaded asymmetric jacket over ruffled ecru skirt, the sensational halter sari-gown, the grey fishtail net gown, and the navy sheath creation were sensational. Moulded and draped cleverly to the curves of the models, the textured rust choli-cum-sari creation, the lehenga with long sleeved choli and the black draped jersey choli gave new options to wedding wear.

Shantanu and Nikhil

Men’s wear had sharp distinct cuts with an interesting pairing of round skirts for sherwanis, bundgalas, kurtas with bundies, an interesting printed sherwani and a set of side-draped kurtas worn with fluid skirts, added a new dimension to men’s wear.

Radiant orchid is painting the city purple!

This season be ready to embrace ‘radiant orchid’— the hottest colour trend in the fashion trail. Radiant orchid blooms with confidence and exudes magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks imagination. Incorporate this vibrant colour in your wardrobe with a tote bag, glamourous flat sandals, a radiant orchid t-shirt or top and an evening dress.

Haute Curry

Haute Curry

Wardrobe essentials: The soft lilac shade of radiant orchid works perfectly well with basic colours and wardrobe staples. The effervescence of the colour should be the focal point of the look, and to play up fresh,  it should be worn with wardrobe staples like ivory or white bottoms, and classic blue or powder blue denims. Also, a solid button down and a floral printed blouse in this hue will cover you for desk hours as well as weekends.

limeroad.com

Texture and material: Radiant orchid’s rosy undertones radiate on skin, producing a healthy glow when worn both by men and women. The colour grabs everyone’s attention without trying too hard.  This shade has permeated the runways during the spring 2014 fashion shows and is already making its way to the red carpet. Having said that, this tint’s luxuriousness and buoyancy is perfectly complemented with rich fabrics like pure silk, georgette and chiffon. The cuts could vary from structured to fluid, depending on the texture of the fabric.

Light and breezy fabrics are the most suited for the upcoming season and flawlessly harmonise the nonchalance of this colour. I feel sheer maxi skirts will continue to rule the radiant orchid shade this season.

Fashion accessory:  Accessories such as earrings and bracelets in big colour blocks would make a bold statement. Also evening accessories such as clutches, bold neck pieces and footwear with gold frames would be glamourous. This elegant colour can add the zing factor to any look.  Accessories like wedges are a great way to add the colour to your wardrobe. Also, a structured satchel in this colour is what I highly recommend.
